Shannon and I met through MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) in Mt. Laurel, New Jersey. It was my first year with this group since we just moved from South Carolina.
I was excited to make new friends and share my photography with them. I offered a special rate for my MOPS friends, and Shannon reached out looking for a newborn photographer.
I immediately noticed how much I loved her personality. She was joyful and silly, and a little awkward, but perfectly so. She reminded me a lot of myself. She apologized for rambling so many times and all I could think was, "I'm just glad I found someone who talks as much as I do because normally *I* am the one apologizing!"
Shannon had a really beautiful story though... Shannon lost her daughter, Teagan, a few years ago. Her story broke my heart. But Shannon is an inspiration and I quickly learned not to feel sorry for her, but to celebrate with her. Shannon has remained strong in her faith, and the way she embraces this journey of life has taught me some serious lessons about myself and my own faith.
Shannon told me her story and told me she really wanted pictures of the new baby, with her older son and their special photograph of Teagan. I felt so honored to be able to create this beautiful family portrait. This is what I love about photography. I get to make intimate connections with my clients and capture their beautiful, unique stories. It's really an honor. And I know I keep saying that but I feel so priveleged to be let into these families' worlds during such a vulnerable time.
This is one of my favorite #newbornphotography sessions to date.
